Help & FAQs: Ziguana Custom Fantasy Stats Explanations

Ziguana Rankings

zRank: When you choose to zRank specific categories, or those tailored to one of your league settings, Ziguana spits out a list of players. Ziguana ranks these players by their overall performance using our unique scoring system. The best player on this list gets a zRank of 1, the next best is ranked 2, and so on. The lower the zRank the better!

zScore: What we refer to as a "zScore" in Ziguana rankings is simply the value a player gets for their performance in a specific category. The higher the zScore the better!

zTotal: Each player gets a zTotal in our ranking system, which is no more than the sum of all their individual zScores. This number will change depending on which categories you choose. The higher the zTotal the better!

Player Balance Rating (PBR)

Player Balance Rating is one of Ziguana's team specific stats. This means that in can be found on your team's statistical summary and is not associated with individual players, but rather your combination of them. Think of this as a measure of how well rounded your squad is. If your team relies heavily on a couple of superstars and fails to have much depth, you will get a relatively high score. A balanced team will get you a much lower score. Thus, as with all of our balance statistics, a lower score is essentially better! Still, it's up to you to determine how balanced you would like your team, but keep in mind that a squad that relies too heavily on one individual can come crashing down with one ill-fated injury. So, we suggest trying to keep this number as low as possible.

Category Balance Rating (CBR)

Much like PBR, this is a "balance" statistic. However, it is not specific to only your team (notice each player gets their own CBR). What our Category Balance Rating measures is exactly what the name suggests, how balanced a player's production is over your desired categories. We also call this our "Role Player Rating" because those players that have been deemed "Role Players" in both the fantasy world and the NBA (ex. Tayshaun Prince and Shane Battier) tend to do well in this stat thanks to their solid contribution over a variety of categories. On the other hand, someone like Eddy Curry will have a horrible CBR because of how well he performs in some categories (FG%) and how poorly he does in others (TOs). Again, because this is a balance stat, remember a lower score is better!

While these individual CBR's are interesting, what's most helpful is your team's CBR. If you are trying to stay competitive in all of your league's categories, you are going to want to have good production in each, and not simply dominate one category at the cost of losing 3 others. Thus, a lower CBR becomes more crucial. If you happen to have a high CBR look to your "Best Category" and think about trading away some of your top producers in that area for someone who can help raise production in your "Worst Category." This will bring down your CBR giving you a much more statistically balanced team!

Consistency Rating (Consist)

Ever notice those players that seem to string together a week of amazing games, but by the time you pick them up, it all comes to a crashing halt? Well, if this is a problem for you, we finally have a stat that can help warn you of this very problem. Ziguana's Consistency Rating gives players a positive score for being reliable. While, player's with a negative score are going to have a lot of variability in production from game to game (and are candidates for the above problem). So, when it comes playoff time you want those guys you can count on for results day-in-day-out. Target guys with a higher Consistency Rating!
